Hi, I’m Jacob. I'm a freelance journalist, the co-author of the New York Times best seller “Easy Money: Cryptocurrency, Casino Capitalism, and the Golden Age of Fraud” (Abrams, 2023), and the author of “Terms of Service: Social Media and the Price of Constant Connection” (HaperCollins, 2015).

I write about the politics of tech, surveillance, privacy, the nihilism of our forever wars, the depredations of a clueless media, and the occasional book review. I also sometimes yap on TV or in front of a live audience.

My concerns range from the dangers of unchecked militarism to the rising tides to the inability to be alone. For the last couple years, I’ve mostly been on the crypto and corporate fraud beat. I think that the future sucked. I'm entangled in all of this stuff alongside you.

I'm a contributing editor for The Baffler and The New Republic. I’ve written for a bunch of websites, magazines, and newspapers whose op-ed pages you love to hate.

I am always open to tips and conversations on background.
